Hyperping alternative: Vigil
Updated · prices checked September 2026
Teams look for a Hyperping alternative when seats at $7–12 each add up or a private status page means moving to the $74 plan. Vigil Starter is $19/month with unlimited team members and private pages, Pro is $49 for 200 monitors and 15 servers. If phone-call alerts and 30-second checks are essential, Hyperping is the better choice.

What Hyperping does well
- Fast checks (30 seconds from Essentials, 20 on Business) from many regions.
- SMS and phone call alerts included from the first paid plan.
- Browser checks, server agents and cron monitoring in the same product, with polished status pages.
Where Vigil is ahead
Limits of Hyperping that Vigil does not have:
- Seats are limited per plan and extra ones cost $7–12 each.
- Private status pages start on Pro ($74/month).
- No logs, error tracking, Kubernetes or RUM.
When to pick Hyperping instead
Pick Hyperping if SMS and phone-call alerts must be included, if you need 20–30-second checks from many regions, or if you want browser checks and polished status pages in one tool.
What Vigil does not do
- Browser checks use a short line-by-line script run in headless Chromium (with screenshots), not full Playwright test code kept in git.
- No SMS or phone-call alerting on the hosted service (the self-hosted edition can page by SMS and call through your own Twilio account); hosted alerts go to chat apps, phone push, email, webhooks and ticketing tools.
- On-call is simple: rotations, overrides, escalation and acknowledgements, without the scheduling depth of PagerDuty or incident.io.
- Vigil's own APM SDKs are Python and Node; other languages send traces through any OpenTelemetry SDK over OTLP. There is no profiling, and it is not a substitute for a full APM suite.
- Checks run from Vigil's servers plus private locations you host; there is no menu of dozens of public regions.
Moving from Hyperping to Vigil
1. Export what you have
List your Hyperping monitors (their API or UI export). You need a name, URL or host, interval and the expected status or keyword for each.
2. Apply as code
Write them as Vigil's YAML and apply with PUT /api/v1/config; the same endpoint exports everything back, so monitors can live in git. Or create them one by one through the REST API (monitors, incidents, maintenance, deploy markers).
3. Reconnect alerts
Add Telegram, Slack, Discord, Teams, ntfy, Pushover, email or webhook channels; set escalation to a second channel set. Point your cron jobs at the new heartbeat URLs and install the server agent with one command.
Run both side by side during the trial: Vigil's alert ingestion accepts Alertmanager and Grafana-style webhooks, so existing alerts can appear on a Vigil status page while you move over.
Frequently asked
Is Vigil cheaper than Hyperping?
For a 5-person team, yes: Vigil Starter is $19/month with unlimited team members, 50 monitors, 3 servers and 3 private status pages. Hyperping Essentials is $24 with 3 seats (+$7 each) and private pages start on Pro at $74.
Does Vigil do browser checks?
Yes, simple ones: a short line-by-line script (open, click, type, expect text) in headless Chromium with screenshots. Hyperping's browser checks are the better fit for longer journeys.
Does Vigil send SMS or call?
Not on the hosted service; the self-hosted edition can, through your own Twilio account. Hosted Vigil alerts through Telegram, Slack, Discord, Teams, email, push and webhooks, and can open PagerDuty or Opsgenie incidents that page by phone.
How do I move monitors?
Export them from Hyperping's API, write them as Vigil YAML and apply with PUT /api/v1/config, or create them via the REST API. Cron checks become heartbeats with new ping URLs.
Ready to leave Hyperping?
Start free: every new account gets 14 days of Pro, no card. When the trial ends the account stays on Free (20 monitors) unless you choose a plan, and everything you set up stays.
