BugSnag alternative: Vigil

Updated · prices checked September 2026

Teams look for a BugSnag alternative when they want error tracking bundled with the rest of their monitoring, or a published flat price instead of a volume calculator. Vigil takes events from any Sentry SDK, groups them into issues with stack traces and releases, and adds uptime, cron, servers, logs and status pages. For mobile stability scores and release health, BugSnag remains the stronger tool.

What BugSnag does well

  • Stability scores and release health, especially good for iOS, Android, React Native, Unity and Flutter apps.
  • Automatic error prioritisation, segmentation and feature-flag correlation.
  • Unlimited users on paid plans and an on-premises option for enterprises.

Where Vigil is ahead

Limits of BugSnag that Vigil does not have:

  • Errors and performance only: no uptime checks, cron monitoring, servers, logs or status pages.
  • Paid prices are volume-tiered and only shown on their calculator.
  • Vigil accepts Sentry SDK events rather than BugSnag's SDKs, so switching means swapping the error SDK in your app.

When to pick BugSnag instead

Pick BugSnag if you ship mobile apps and rely on stability scores, release health and per-platform crash tooling, if you want feature-flag correlation for errors, or if you need an on-premises enterprise deployment.

What Vigil does not do

  • Browser checks use a short line-by-line script run in headless Chromium (with screenshots), not full Playwright test code kept in git.
  • No SMS or phone-call alerting on the hosted service (the self-hosted edition can page by SMS and call through your own Twilio account); hosted alerts go to chat apps, phone push, email, webhooks and ticketing tools.
  • On-call is simple: rotations, overrides, escalation and acknowledgements, without the scheduling depth of PagerDuty or incident.io.
  • Vigil's own APM SDKs are Python and Node; other languages send traces through any OpenTelemetry SDK over OTLP. There is no profiling, and it is not a substitute for a full APM suite.
  • Checks run from Vigil's servers plus private locations you host; there is no menu of dozens of public regions.
Switching

Moving from BugSnag to Vigil

Start free

1. Create a project

In Vigil, open Errors and create a project per app to get a Sentry-style DSN.

2. Swap the SDK

Replace the BugSnag notifier with the official Sentry SDK for your platform and set the Vigil DSN, release and environment.

3. Add the rest

Connect alert channels and add uptime, heartbeat and server monitoring for the same services.

Run both side by side during the trial: Vigil's alert ingestion accepts Alertmanager and Grafana-style webhooks, so existing alerts can appear on a Vigil status page while you move over.

Frequently asked

Can Vigil read BugSnag SDK events?

No. Vigil speaks the Sentry protocol, so you switch to a Sentry SDK (official ones exist for every major language and mobile platform) and point it at your Vigil DSN.

Is Vigil good for mobile crash reporting?

It accepts events from Sentry's mobile SDKs and groups them with stack traces, but it has no stability scores or release-health dashboards. For mobile-first teams BugSnag or Sentry is the better choice.

How much error volume does Vigil include?

1,000 events a day on Free, 20,000 on Starter ($19), 200,000 on Pro ($49) and 2 million on Business ($149), with no overage charges.

What else comes with Vigil's plans?

Uptime and API monitors, cron heartbeats, a server agent with logs, Kubernetes health, Web Vitals, private status pages on your domain, unlimited team members on paid plans and AI incident analysis.
