Rollbar alternative: Vigil
Updated · prices checked September 2026
Teams look for a Rollbar alternative when they are paying for errors in one tool and uptime, cron and status pages in three others. Vigil groups errors from any Sentry SDK and covers the rest of the monitoring on one plan with no occurrence meter. Keep Rollbar if its telemetry timeline and session replay are central to how you debug.

What Rollbar does well
- Fast, real-time error grouping with good deploy tracking and telemetry leading up to each error.
- Unlimited users on every plan, including free.
- Session replay and AI credits in the same product.
Where Vigil is ahead
Limits of Rollbar that Vigil does not have:
- Errors only: no uptime checks, cron monitoring, servers, logs or status pages.
- Occurrence-based pricing climbs with traffic; replays and AI credits are metered on top.
- Vigil uses Sentry SDKs rather than Rollbar's, so switching means swapping the error SDK.
When to pick Rollbar instead
Pick Rollbar if error tracking is all you need, you like its real-time grouping and deploy tracking, and you want session replay in the same tool.
What Vigil does not do
- Browser checks use a short line-by-line script run in headless Chromium (with screenshots), not full Playwright test code kept in git.
- No SMS or phone-call alerting on the hosted service (the self-hosted edition can page by SMS and call through your own Twilio account); hosted alerts go to chat apps, phone push, email, webhooks and ticketing tools.
- On-call is simple: rotations, overrides, escalation and acknowledgements, without the scheduling depth of PagerDuty or incident.io.
- Vigil's own APM SDKs are Python and Node; other languages send traces through any OpenTelemetry SDK over OTLP. There is no profiling, and it is not a substitute for a full APM suite.
- Checks run from Vigil's servers plus private locations you host; there is no menu of dozens of public regions.
Moving from Rollbar to Vigil
1. Create a project
In Vigil, open Errors and create a project per app to get a DSN.
2. Swap the SDK
Replace the Rollbar SDK with the official Sentry SDK for your language, set the DSN, release and environment.
3. Add the rest
Connect alert channels and add uptime, heartbeat and server monitoring for the same services.
Run both side by side during the trial: Vigil's alert ingestion accepts Alertmanager and Grafana-style webhooks, so existing alerts can appear on a Vigil status page while you move over.
Frequently asked
Can Vigil read Rollbar SDK events?
No. Vigil speaks the Sentry protocol. Replace the Rollbar SDK with the official Sentry SDK for your language and point it at your Vigil DSN.
How does error volume compare?

Does Vigil have session replay?
No. Vigil records breadcrumbs, users and releases with each issue, and Web Vitals and JS errors through RUM, but no replay.
What else is included?
Uptime and API monitors, cron heartbeats, servers and logs through the agent, Kubernetes health, private status pages and AI incident analysis, all on the same plan.
