Uptime monitoring with WhatsApp alerts: who has it built in, and what it costs
Updated · written by Ritom Puzari at PuzariCloud, which makes Vigil, one of the tools below
Several Indian tools send WhatsApp alerts natively: Uptime Assure even on its free plan, TidyMonitor from ₹199 a month, Pingzo from ₹399 plus GST. Healthchecks.io and OpenStatus include it on paid plans; UptimeRobot, Better Stack and HetrixTools list no WhatsApp channel. Vigil by PuzariCloud sends WhatsApp on every plan via the free CallMeBot gateway. Meta charges ₹0.115 per Indian utility message.
Every competitor fact on this page was read from that vendor's own pricing page, documentation or source repository on 18 October 2026 (checked 2026-10-18), and each row links its source. Where the vendor's page does not say something, we write "not stated" instead of guessing. Vigil's rows come from our own plan table and code. Prices change: the vendor's site is the final word.
In India, and in much of the world, WhatsApp is the app people actually look at. An email about a down website can sit unread for an hour; a WhatsApp message gets seen in minutes. That is why Indian monitoring tools lead with WhatsApp alerts, and why "uptime monitoring with WhatsApp alerts" is a question people ask search engines and AI assistants. The answers they get are thin, so this page lists which tools send WhatsApp themselves, which need a gateway or a webhook, what it really costs per message, and how to set it up in Vigil.
We make Vigil by PuzariCloud, one of the tools below. Its WhatsApp alerts use a free third-party gateway, not the official WhatsApp Business API, and we explain exactly what that means.
Three ways a monitor can send WhatsApp
1. Natively, from the vendor's own WhatsApp Business number
The monitoring company delivers the message itself; you only enter your phone number. Pingzo and BharatUptime say they use the WhatsApp Business API for this, which means an account on Meta's platform, an approved alert template and a fee to Meta for every message. That cost is why vendor-delivered WhatsApp is usually on paid plans and often capped at a number of messages a month.
2. Through a gateway you set up
The monitor sends to a gateway service that delivers to your WhatsApp. CallMeBot is the best-known free one: you message its bot once, it replies with an API key, and from then on any tool can send WhatsApp messages to your own number. Its page says the free API is for personal use only, and it cannot send to groups or to other people. Self-hosted gateways such as WAHA and Evolution API, and hosted ones such as Whapi.Cloud, are other options that Uptime Kuma supports.
3. Through a webhook and your own WhatsApp Business account
If your monitor has webhooks but no WhatsApp channel, you can relay alerts to your own WhatsApp Business Platform account, directly or through a provider such as Twilio. This gives you an official sender under your own name, at the cost of setting up a business account, a sender number and an approved message template.
Which tools send WhatsApp, and how
Read on 18 October 2026 from each vendor's pricing page, docs or source code (linked). "Native" = the vendor delivers it; "gateway" = you connect a gateway account; "not listed" = no WhatsApp channel on the page we read, so you would need a webhook relay.

What a WhatsApp alert costs
Alerts are business-initiated messages, so on the official platform they go out as utility template messages. Meta publishes a rate card per country. For Indian phone numbers, the INR list rates effective 1 October 2026 are ₹0.115 per utility message, ₹0.115 per authentication message and ₹0.8631 per marketing message, before volume tiers and taxes (Meta's pricing page). If you send through Twilio, Twilio adds its own fee of $0.005 per message on top of Meta's (Twilio's WhatsApp pricing).
That is very little. Here is what a month of alerts to Indian numbers costs at those list rates; each outage usually means two messages, one when it goes down and one when it recovers:
| WhatsApp alerts a month | Meta directly (utility) | Through Twilio | At the marketing rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | ₹1.15 | ₹1.15 + $0.05 | ₹8.63 |
| 60 | ₹6.90 | ₹6.90 + $0.30 | ₹51.79 |
| 300 | ₹34.50 | ₹34.50 + $1.50 | ₹258.93 |
Twilio bills in US dollars; the Meta part is shown at Meta's INR list rate so the columns compare. The last column matters only if Meta classifies an alert template as marketing rather than utility.
So the real cost of official WhatsApp alerts is not the messages; it is the setup and the account. That is what monitoring vendors bundle into their plans. For comparison, here is the effective price per included message on plans that state a WhatsApp allowance (the plan also includes monitoring, so this overstates the messaging cost):
| Tool and plan | Price a month | WhatsApp messages included | Plan price per message |
|---|---|---|---|
| TidyMonitor Solo | ₹199 incl. GST | 30 | ₹6.63 |
| TidyMonitor Starter | ₹799 incl. GST | 150 | ₹5.33 |
| TidyMonitor Pro | ₹1,799 incl. GST | 600 | ₹3.00 |
| PingSLA Growth | $99 | 150 | $0.66 |
| PingSLA Pro | $199 | 500 | $0.40 |
| Healthchecks.io Business | $20 | 50 | $0.40 |
Healthchecks.io's credits cover SMS and WhatsApp together. CallMeBot, which Vigil and Uptime Kuma can use, charges nothing for personal use.
Setting up WhatsApp alerts in Vigil
Vigil's WhatsApp channel works on every plan, including Free. It sends through CallMeBot, so each person who wants alerts registers their own number once:
- Add CallMeBot's WhatsApp number to your phone's contacts (it is shown on CallMeBot's WhatsApp page when sign-ups are open) and send it the message I allow callmebot to send me messages.
- Wait for the reply with your API key. CallMeBot says to try again after 24 hours if it does not arrive within two minutes.
- In Vigil, open Alert channels, choose WhatsApp, and enter your number with the country code (for India, +91 followed by the 10-digit number) and the API key. Vigil checks the format before saving.
- Send a test alert from the channel, then attach the channel to the monitors that matter, or to an escalation step.
- Repeat for each teammate with their own number and key. The free API only messages the person who registered.
The message starts with the alert title in bold, followed by the details (up to about 900 characters) and a link to the incident. Recovery messages work the same way.
A caveat we saw while writing this: on 18 October 2026 CallMeBot's WhatsApp page said its bot was currently full and that new numbers should check back in a few days. If you cannot register, use Vigil's webhook channel instead: it supports a custom method, custom headers and a JSON body template with the alert's fields, so it can call your own WhatsApp Business API provider or a small relay.
Where Vigil loses, honestly
- Not the official Business API. TidyMonitor, Pingzo, Uptime Assure and the other tools marked "native" deliver WhatsApp themselves, and Pingzo says it uses Meta's official API. Vigil depends on CallMeBot, a free service with no service-level promise, and on its sign-ups being open.
- No group delivery. One channel reaches one person's number. For a shared thread, Slack, Discord, Telegram or Teams channels work better, and Vigil has all of them.
- No SMS or phone calls on hosted Vigil. If WhatsApp is your backup for a pager, a tool with calls (Better Stack's responder licence, Healthchecks.io's call credits, HetrixTools' call credits) covers the night shift better.
- One check location. Vigil's hosted checks run from one location in Germany, with optional private locations you run yourself; several Indian tools check from Mumbai or other Indian locations.
Where it wins: WhatsApp is on the free plan with no message cap from Vigil's side, next to email, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Teams, push and webhooks, at a flat price with unlimited team members on paid plans and rupee billing for buyers in India.
Who should pick what
- WhatsApp on a free plan, delivered by the vendor: Uptime Assure (1 number free, 5 monitors).
- A small business that wants WhatsApp, a GST invoice and nothing complicated: TidyMonitor from ₹199 a month including GST, or Pingzo from ₹399 plus GST.
- Cron jobs with WhatsApp: Healthchecks.io Business ($20 a month, shared SMS and WhatsApp credits).
- A homelab: Uptime Kuma with a CallMeBot, WAHA or Evolution API notification.
- WhatsApp as one channel among many, free to start, plus status pages and cron heartbeats: Vigil by PuzariCloud, accepting the CallMeBot caveats above.
- A team that wants official WhatsApp from its own business number: any tool with webhooks plus your own WhatsApp Business Platform account; at ₹0.115 a message the messages themselves cost almost nothing.

Frequently asked questions
Which uptime monitor has WhatsApp alerts on the free plan?
On 18 October 2026, Uptime Assure's free plan included WhatsApp alerts to 1 number, and Vigil by PuzariCloud's WhatsApp channel works on Free through the CallMeBot gateway. Self-hosted Uptime Kuma can send WhatsApp through gateways such as CallMeBot or WAHA. Most others put WhatsApp on paid plans.
How much does a WhatsApp alert cost?
On Meta's own rate card (effective 1 October 2026), a utility template message to an Indian number costs ₹0.115 before volume tiers and tax, so 60 alerts a month is ₹6.90. Twilio adds $0.005 per message on top. Monitoring tools bundle it instead: TidyMonitor Solo includes 30 messages a month in ₹199.
Can alerts go to a WhatsApp group?
Not through CallMeBot's free API, which only messages the person who registered (its page points to paid services such as Twilio for groups or sending to others). If your team wants one shared thread, use a Slack, Discord, Telegram or Teams channel, or a tool whose WhatsApp plan covers several numbers (TidyMonitor Starter: 3, Uptime Assure Pro: unlimited).
Is WhatsApp good enough for waking someone up?
It is good for being seen quickly during the day and evening. For night-time paging use something that can break through Do Not Disturb: a push app with critical alerts, Pushover emergency priority or a phone call, and keep WhatsApp as the second channel.
What happens if CallMeBot is unavailable?
Vigil logs the failed delivery and your other channels still fire, so pair WhatsApp with email or push. On 18 October 2026 CallMeBot's sign-up page said the bot was full for new numbers. If you need a supported route, point Vigil's webhook channel at your own WhatsApp Business API provider.
