Vigil vs Atlassian Statuspage
Updated · prices checked September 2026
Statuspage is the default status page for SaaS companies and it communicates incidents well. It does not monitor anything, and private pages start at $79/month. Vigil status pages are driven by Vigil's own monitors, private by default, and include a custom domain, password or private-link access and subscribers on every plan including Free.

What Atlassian Statuspage does well
- The name customers recognise, with polished incident communication and subscriber notifications.
- Audience-specific pages that show different components to different customer groups.
- Deep integration with Jira, Opsgenie and the rest of Atlassian's tools.
Where Vigil is ahead
Limits of Atlassian Statuspage that Vigil does not have:
- A custom domain starts at $29/month and private pages at $79/month for 50 authenticated subscribers.
- No monitoring: you still need a separate tool to know something is down.
- Team members are capped per plan (2 on Free, 5 on Hobby).
- Vigil status pages are private by default, support a password or private link, a custom domain and subscribers on every plan, and are driven by Vigil's own checks.
When to pick Atlassian Statuspage instead
Pick Statuspage if your customers expect it, if you need audience-specific pages for different customer groups, tens of thousands of subscribers, or tight Jira and Atlassian integration.
What Vigil does not do
- Browser checks use a short line-by-line script run in headless Chromium (with screenshots), not full Playwright test code kept in git.
- No SMS or phone-call alerting on the hosted service (the self-hosted edition can page by SMS and call through your own Twilio account); hosted alerts go to chat apps, phone push, email, webhooks and ticketing tools.
- On-call is simple: rotations, overrides, escalation and acknowledgements, without the scheduling depth of PagerDuty or incident.io.
- Vigil's own APM SDKs are Python and Node; other languages send traces through any OpenTelemetry SDK over OTLP. There is no profiling, and it is not a substitute for a full APM suite.
- Checks run from Vigil's servers plus private locations you host; there is no menu of dozens of public regions.
Moving from Atlassian Statuspage to Vigil
1. Import the page
Run the Statuspage importer at /app/import: page, component groups and email subscribers come across.
2. Attach monitors
Point each component at a Vigil monitor (uptime, API, heartbeat, server) so status updates itself.
3. Move the domain
CNAME your status subdomain to Vigil; HTTPS is issued automatically. Choose private, password, private-link or public visibility.
Run both side by side during the trial: Vigil's alert ingestion accepts Alertmanager and Grafana-style webhooks, so existing alerts can appear on a Vigil status page while you move over.
Frequently asked
Can Vigil import my Statuspage?
Yes. /app/import reads an Atlassian Statuspage (with your API key): the page, its component groups and its email subscribers come across.
Are Vigil status pages private or public?
Private by default: only members of your workspace can see them. Share with outsiders by password or a signed private link, or make a page public. Custom domains with automatic HTTPS work on every plan.
Does Vigil update the status page automatically?
Yes. Components are Vigil monitors, so a confirmed outage shows on the page with 90-day uptime bars and latency. You can also post incidents and scheduled maintenance by hand or through the API.
How many subscribers does Vigil support?
Email subscribers per page: 25 on Free, 100 on Starter, 500 on Pro and 2,000 on Business, with +500 packs for $2. Webhook, Slack and Discord subscribers, an Atom feed and status.json are also available. Statuspage goes far higher on its bigger plans.
